PM Salam says Lebanon’s cabinet backs military forces in the fight against terrorists

Prime Minister Tammam Salam, who chaired on Monday a security meeting at the Grand Serail, stressed the need to proceed with the military operation launched by the Lebanese army and security forces against “outlaws”.
“The cabinet backs the legitimate military and security forces in the fight against terrorists and in the pursuit of a restored state of security in the city of Tripoli in particular and the northern regions in general,” Salam said.
PM Salam also noted that he is paying “close attention” to the humanitarian situation resulting from battles, saying he asked the concerned ministries and the Higher Relief Council to fulfill their duties and meet the demands of the families who were affected by the clashes.
Monday’s meeting at the Grand Serail was attended by Defense Minister Samir Moqbel, Interior Minister Nouhad Mashnouq, Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi, Lebanese Armed Forces Commander Jean Kahwaji and the general-secretary of the Higher Defense Council Mohammad Kheir.
The meeting was also held in the presence of Director General of General Security Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim, Director General of Internal Security Forces Ibrahim Basbous, Lebanese State Security Brigadier General Georges Karaa, LAF Director of Intelligence Brigadier General Edmond Fadel and the head of ISF Information Branch Imad Othman.
